BIOGRAPHY
Louisa Boyd
Louisa Studied embroidery at The Manchester Metropolitan University and graduated in 2002. She exhibited her work at The New Designers Show that year, and won two prestigious awards – The Paperchase Future of Design Award and a high commendation from the judges of the New Designer of the Year. This in turn led to her work being shown in two solo exhibitions, the first at Paperchase's flagship store on Tottenham Court Road, London and the second in their sister store in Manchester .
From this point Louisa has been working on establishing a reputation as a commercial artist. She has been successful in this area and has been selling her work nationally to galleries ever since, as well as working on numerous private commissions. Subsequently, her work is part of many private collections across the country.
She makes use of traditional techniques, but executes these in a contemporary manner and colours, working instinctively with the natural movement of paint. Her method of using acrylic inks combined with acrylics enhance the individual characteristics of Louisa's work and offer subtle yet distinctive surface textures. Louisa is interested especially in pushing the media she uses to work in alterative ways, to create the emotive qualities she wants to achieve from her landscapes.
Her work is based on landscapes from the area that she grew up in Cheshire . They attempt to portray its atmospheric and magical qualities, as well as Louisa's love of the natural world. Her emotional attachment to the countryside has led her to paint passionate pieces that captivate their audience.
